Heidi Vasiloff currently serves as the Executive Director of Great Hearts Online.
There are few things as fulfilling or as joyful as seeing the light in a child’s eyes when they have discovered a new truth. I believe teaching children is a privilege and a gift and I am humbled and thankful to have had the opportunity to be a small part of their story.
Heidi Vasiloff grew up in a small town in Arizona and earned a BS in wildlife biology from ASU. Planning to become a game warden, she soon found her true calling – to teach about wildlife and the outdoors. She started her career creating curriculum and providing teacher In-service training for the National Wildlife Federation, New Mexico Department of Fish and Game, and Arizona Game and Fish Department. After serving as the Regional Coordinator for AZGFD, she transitioned into a consulting position, focusing on business processes and design, working with companies across the globe. Even as a consultant she continued to work with teachers and children, serving as an executive director of a not-for-profit and running an outdoor education business. She found Great Hearts when she was seeking a school for her children and the classroom called her back. Heidi started as a science teacher for Trivium Prep and eventually served as the Headmaster for over five years.
Mrs. Vasiloff is the proud mother of twins who graduated in 2020 from Great Hearts Trivium Prep and who now attend Whitworth University in Spokane Washington. Leaving her beloved Arizona for her husband’s job, she now lives in Colorado Springs. She is an avid birder, who loves to read and travel. She has been able to watch birds all over the world – from Australia to Europe and looks to one day see them in Africa!
I am incredibly honored and excited to be part of the founding faculty for Great Hearts Online! I am originally from the Syracuse, New York area and have lived in sunny and warm San Antonio for four years. I graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) College at Cortland with my Master of Science in Teaching in Childhood Education. Before this, I lived and worked in Boston, Massachusetts, at Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
I have been a 5th grade teacher at the Great Hearts Monte Vista campus in San Antonio for almost four years and now serve as the Academic Dean for Kinder-4th grade, for Great Hearts Online. When I am not at school, I am typically spending time with family or exploring the beautiful museums and delicious restaurants in the San Antonio area. I also enjoy traveling and have found myself in many fascinating places worldwide, like Guatemala, Mexico, Thailand, Cambodia, Indonesia, and Oman. I am an avid reader and can think of nothing better than cozying up with a good book and a hot cup of tea. I enjoy various genres but tend to read more literary fiction, historical fiction, and science fiction. My love for reading started at a young age and inspired me to go back to graduate school to encourage and foster a child’s love for reading.
I believe all students should feel like their educational journey is not just one of memorization, tests, and strenuous essays but also true inspiration, discovery, and curiosity. I will continue to cultivate this in my classroom through patience, love, and perseverance to guide your child on their educational journey towards truth, goodness, and beauty.
